In 2005, John Maisano, a retired Senior Executive of two major international corporations, contacted his friends and owners of African Quest Safaris* in Kenya with an idea. His passion for travel had taken him to all 7 continents and some of the remotest places on earth. His favorite destination was Africa and in thirty six years, he has gone on 24 safaris in East and Southern Africa and Nepal with family and friends. John had decided that he wanted to help travelers to Africa in the role of a Safari Planner by offering extraordinary personal service. Thus Safari and Beyond was born.

The ‘boss’ had very definite ideas about the ideal safari and is a strong advocate of custom-made, private safaris where clients work with him to create their own experience. Today, many travelers do their own research on the Internet and reject pre-made, scheduled safaris. John prefers working with these travelers and helping them create their own. He has concentrated in Kenya and Tanzania because “that’s where the animals are” as well as Uganda and Rwanda and their famed Gorillas. In 2008, Safari and Beyond expanded to Botswana and its famed Okavango Delta, Namibia and South Africa. And now, Safari and Beyond includes Turkey, Egypt, Victoria Falls, Cape Town, Zanzibar and Lamu for our clients to consider as places to start or end their safari.

What is behind the ‘Beyond’ in the company name? Experience has shown that many clients want to do more than experience the magnificent animals. So we offer “beyond experiences’ for the adventurous like climbing Mt Kilimanjaro or a day trip up Mt Kenya, possibly a horse safari or a visit to the Source of the Nile; maybe deep sea fishing in the Indian Ocean or scuba and snorkeling amongst the fabulous reefs. Bush walks, school visits, museums and galleries even golf or secluded lodging on Zanzibar with the utmost privacy, especially for honeymooners. Many of our travelers wish to see Victoria Falls (everyone should) or take the famous day trips from Cape Town visiting close up the Great White Sharks or relaxing in the Winelands of Stellenbosch or Paarl.

Once our clients experience "nature in the raw" they come to us for additional exotic vacations. We have arranged and sent our clients to such places as Antarctica, the Amazon River and Jungle, The Galapagos Islands and Tiger Tops in Nepal

Sister and brother, Tasneem and Taher Adamji, are fifth generation Kenyans who have spent their entire careers in African Tourism. These two entrepreneurs have built one of Kenya’s top ground tour companies.

In 1985, Tasneem began her career and spent 9 years working for two major tourism companies where she learned the basics and honed her skills. Taher soon followed.

In 1994, they formed their own company, African Quest Safaris LTD (AQS). Their mission was to create a professional and reliable company that would give every client a wonderful, glitch-free vacation. Their secret was, and still is, hands-on management. They staffed the company with young, bright, dynamic and dedicated employees and trained them relentlessly with the accent on personal integrity and business ethics.

Tasneem, the CEO, has a reputation for being one of the most knowledgeable Kenyans regarding tourism, Kenyan culture and social needs. She frequently travels with the Kenya Tourist Board around the world. She was recently named Kenya Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.

Better still is the social conscience of AQS. They understand that the future of Kenya rests with their educated youth so they sponsor 8 rural schools across the country. They also have a commitment to sustaining this beautiful land and wildlife and they do so by contributing to Tree Planting in Tsavo East National Park, Rhino Conservation in Lake Nakuru and participating in the Year of the Dolphins.

Behind every successful CEO is the manager who attends to the details and makes the company run smoothly. Enter Taher, a trained engineer, who has been called a computer genius and an Operations wizard. He and his staff provide those legendary glitch-free safaris. No detail is too small for him.

Lest you get the impression that this is a two-person company, allow us to point out that AQS has 54 employees on its payroll. These people make it happen in the offices in Nairobi, Mombasa and in the bush. Additionally, the Company has an office and organization in Tanzania to give our clients in that area even closer attention
